![]() The Wii U wasn't made for them (or me) with the pointless tablet. Just Dance got its start on Wii, and folks who like things like Just Dance loved the Wii and bought them in droves. In fact the sales of JD 2020 justify a Wii version of JD 2021, if anything. In short, Wii owners are still willing to purchase good Wii games (and JD on Wii with a Wiimote has ALWAYS been better than JD on Xbox or PS3). In fact, JD 2020 for Wii is second only to the Switch version in sales (the Wii version has outsold the PS4 and XBOne versions) and has over 1400 reviews (!!!!) on Amazon right now.* This Wii game has sold more physical units than any Wii U game since 2017. JD 2019 on the Wii, however, outsold it just as it has done since the first version of JD for the Wii U and JD2019 on Wii was profitable for Ubisoft. It still would've been nice to have one last Wii U release.īecause JD 2019 for Wii U sold less than 1000 copies, making it a loss for Ubisoft. But in my opinion, 2020 should've made it onto the console. If there are Just Dance titles after 2020, then I really don't think that these skipping the Wii U would harm anything. That's somewhat respectable, especially since there's evidence to suggest the Wii U version received only one print run. I can understand why 360 didn't get 2020 (had the absolute lowest sales on any Just Dance title in North America) and PS3 was losing traction for Just Dance even after 2016 but the Wii U version of 2019 still pushed out over 100,000 units when the console was already long since discontinued. The PS3 version of 2018 didn't break above 70,000. By comparison, 2019 has sold at least 100 thousand units in the Wii U. The PS3 versions have consistently been the lowest sellers across the board, prompting 2018 to be the very final Just Dance title on the system. Even a few spinoffs have sold somewhat higher on Wii U than the Wii. Contrary to the popular belief, the Wii U versions of Just Dance have always sold well and consistently above the PS4 and Xbox One versions since Just Dance 2014 and until 2018. This part however isn't the best point of contention. The other factor is that Ubisoft may have been concerned about the game's success from a sales standpoint. Nintendo was also no longer making these discs. While occasional games are still releasing digitally for the system, few if any physical releases are being produced, and Ubisoft already gave up on the system when it didn't release Just Dance 2020 for it (Just Dance 2019 did get a Wii U release). There hasn't been a reason stated why it didn't make it to Wii U but you can make a few educated guesses as to why.Įven Axiom Verge had issues being released physically due to retail in the States allegedly not even wanting to have to stock another Wii U title. Wii U production, meanwhile, stopped in 2016. The bulk of new releases petered out after 2015, with Nintendo ceasing to create its own new releases in 2012 to make room for the Wii U and winding down console production in 2013. Ravenscourt and Plug In Digital's Let's Sing 2018 (released in October of 2017) was one of, if not the last non-Ubisoft game to launch for the console. While Nintendo declined to comment as to whether that was the case or not, Ubisoft has held the line on being the only new publisher with a new game coming to the Wii for a few years now. Though it isn't certain, this could mean that Just Dance 2020 will be the last new game release ever for the Wii. We can't speak on behalf of other publishers or for Nintendo." "We would like to clarify that Just Dance 2020 will be the last Ubisoft title to release on Wii. In a statement to, Ubisoft confirmed that it was done with the Wii: And it marks the last time an Ubisoft game will do so. Just Dance 2020 launched yesterday for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and, remarkably, Nintendo's two-generation-old console the Wii.
